丹妮丝·理查兹（Denise Richards）于1971年2月17日生于美国伊利诺斯州的芝加哥，在家中的两姐妹中排行老大，父亲艾伍·理查兹曾经为一家电话公司工作过，母亲乔妮·理查兹拥有一家名为Jitters的咖啡连锁店。她从小在芝加哥长大，直到15岁时随家移居加利福尼亚的欧申赛德（Oceanside），并在当地的埃尔卡米诺中学读书。中学毕业后，丹妮丝移居洛杉矶，并开始从事模特工作。此后她开始在电视剧和电影中出任角色，因为在1997年保罗·范霍文导演的的科幻大片《星河战队》（Starship Troopers）中的出色表演引起观众及业内人士的注意，次年在惊悚悬疑片《野东西》（wild things）中勾魂摄魄的表现再次令人有一亮。她知名度最高的角色是1999年上映的007系列电影《黑日危机》中邦德女郎，从而打响了国际知名度。
